How does being a backpacker make it easier to live in Africa?

An aside from all the travel posts, here’s a small one about the realities of South African life in a poor town.

Raquel and I arrived almost three weeks ago and one thing that has been synonymous with our return has been the absence of water. This week for example, we haven’t had water for three days already. Now anyone coming from Europe would be finding this outrageous and would be on a moanfest already… But not Raquel, yes she finds it inconvenient, but hey, if we need to take baths in the pool, then let’s do it, because afterall, anything is better than three days without bathing in the remote jungles of Laos and being attacked by leeches! (Wait for the Laos post to find out more about the leaches!)
